You can’t miss Maria Clara’s fine hair over her young, angelical face. With a ready smile and concrete dreams, the young model has made firm inroads into the international market. After her success in Milan Fashion Week, where the model impressed brands like Givenchy, Gucci, Valentino and Just Cavali, Maria Clara is now preparing for new challenges. Keeping her head and feet on the ground are the rules for her dreams that include… the cover of Vogue.
You haven’t been in the world of fashion for very long: only two years. It all started as quite a surprise. Tell us a little about how all this started.
It all started in October of 2013 when I was 15 and I applied to enter L’Agence’s Go Top Model competition.
In recent months I have started to get proposals for international work and we have started to get replies from some agencies in Milan, London, Paris, New York and LA.
Your international career has now become remarkable, mainly in the international fashion weeks...
It has been an incredible experience. Fashion weeks are very tiring, but I think that it’s all worth it in the end. All the adrenaline backstage is unbelievable: it is a unique experience that I hope to repeat soon. I saw that the casting directors started to look at me differently. The fact of doing a more important fashion show always draws attention. This is all like a jigsaw puzzle: you have just put the pieces together.
In two years you have managed to achieve many of your objectives. What do you make of such a rapid rise?
It’s true. It has been quite fast. I try to keep my feet on the ground, to take things step by step. Of course I know that there are always things that I can do better to try to further my career. But with patience… I’ll get there
And what are the next steps?
Essentially a good campaign. I love photographs, mainly editorials and campaigns. I would love to get to an airport and see my face with a brand. Besides that, and I have said this often, I would love to be on the cover of Vogue. That’s my dream.
