Last year, was registered a growth of 6.3%. In the first half of 2017, Portugal exported 43 million pairs of shoes worth a total of 960 million euros. If these numbers are confirmed by the end of the year, this will be the eighth consecutive year of growth of the Portuguese footwear industry in international markets. It seems that, in 2017, the Portuguese footwear exports will reach a new record.
Since 2009, the sales of Portuguese footwear in international markets have increased approximately 60%, rising from 1.200 million euros to nearly 1.950 million, by the end of last year.
In the first half of 2017, the Portuguese footwear grew in almost all relevant markets. In the European Union, was recorded an increase of 5.2%, as a result to good performances in countries, such as France (over 4% to 202 million euros), Holland (over 6% to 136 million euros) and Germany (over 8% to 181 million euros).
Outside Europe, highlights for the USA (over 7% to 35 million euros), Russia (over 32% to 13 million euros), Canada (a 30% growth to 12 million euros), Angola (over 126% to 11 million euros) and Japan (growth of 6% to 11 million euros).
As a last reminder, the Portuguese footwear exports nearly all of its production to 152 countries worldwide.
